Fluenz French 1
I purchased the language software called Fluenz French (Version 2) directly from fluenz.com. While I was very happy with the product itself, I am very surprised at the poor customer service provided by the fluenz staff. Customers who purchased the software prior to May 24 2010 were supposed to receive a redeemable coupon to download a foreign language film from iTunes - the idea being that hear the language in a different setting would help the student learn the language faster. Great idea, but I never received the redeemable coupon.
The first time I contacted the Fluenz staff, I was told I was eligible for the promotion and should have received the information via email. I explained to the staff member via instant message that the email was never received on my end. And to their credit, they agreed to contact the person in charge of the promotion and request an email be generated to me. However, I never received the email - and highly doubt it was ever sent.
The second time I contacted the fluenz staff (about a week after the first contact) I was told that I was never eligible for the promotion, but due to my contacting the company and insisting I was eligible, they would send me an email. And yet again, no email.
I finally contacted Fluenz and advised the product was being returned due to the problem with the promotion. I just can't stand it when a company fails to meet the agreed upon terms - if the company had no intentions of providing the coupon/code, then why advertise it?
Advice to future buyers: I found Fluenz French (version 2) to be outstanding and should definitely be considered if you want to learn French at home. However, I would recommend purchasing the software from Amazon from a seller offering a used copy. Fluenz staff have proven to me to be unreliable and the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Fluenz staff proved they can't follow through on their promises and promotions, why would that change in the future? A used copy should sell for no more than 85 to 120, a bit of a better deal than the 178 charged by Fluenz and their Amazon store.
Good luck to all and beware
Monetary Loss: $178.

What a whiney complaint. You sound like someone licked all the red off your candy and you are just really, really mad...about a trivial issue.
The goal of the software is to help you learn the language.
It did that. I have used Fluez and have called their customer service and found them very helpful.
I have used Fluenz Levels 1 and 2 for Spanish Latin America. My weakest subject in high school was French, so it is surprising to me that I have actually persevered with Spanish.
The reason that I have is largely because the software is excellant. I had to contact customer service over a minor issue with the podcasts for my Ipod. They were very responsive. I almost gave up trying to learn Spanish with Rosetta Stone.
As a health professional, I am constantly under the threat of having my professional reputation degraded by some online review. I don't think that the authors of these reviews grasp the damage that these negative posts can produce. I'm trying to grasp the concept of how this video made in France was supposed to markedly improve the ability or the learner to comprehend French. Seems irrational to me.
What I find more irrational is to post negative comments online regarding such a minor issue.
Don't get me wrong, if the software did not deliver for the purpose for what it was purchased, then leave a negative post. I leaving this post to purchase Fluenz Spanish Levels 3,4 and 5.
I purchased and have used Fluenz French levels 1 through 5 for just over a year and a half. The software is excellent and I have found the company's customer service to be outstanding.
For instance, Mac OS X "Lion" was released yesterday, and Fluenz was ready with an update that allows me to used my older version of Fluenz with the new release of OS X on the day it became available.
Such service is outstanding! Fluenz was under no obligation to even provide their customers with such an update, given the changes that Apple made in Lion; not only did they do so, but the update was free of charge and available immediately. Fantastic!
This level of service is standard for Fluenz, at least in my experience. So, while this website is named pissedconsumer.com, I am one customer that is very pleased with Fluenz. And no, I am n no way affiliated with the company.
Almost certainly this was a case of the user having the problem but blaming the company. If you use a SPAM folder/filter then you ought to expect that some good/desired e-mail will get 'caught' too. Rather than jump on the company, check your own settings and write an apology.
I got their spanish 1,2,3 and also their french 1,2 and have been happy with both. I also got a special offer a few months after I purchased the french 1,2 to buy the new french 3 at a discounted price from Fluenz I think because it was new and being a previous customer they asked me if I was interested.
I did buy it.
On another note, I got a new laptop and loaded the programs onto that computer but I couldn't get the microphone to play back anything. I hadn't had that problem with my previous laptop. I contacted them and within 24 hours I had an answer and a resolution.
Very good and courteous customer service and I do like their programs.
They are very good and I like the "classroom" setting having also taken foreign languages from the local community college I think I get as much from the programs as from being in an actual class. I will probably also end up getting their other ones (Italian and Mandarin) because I think they have a very good product.
I just recently contacted Fluenz about a replacment DVD and the Staff was very courteous and helpful. The mailed out a free replacement the very next day. I have been very pleased with their service.

Did you ever think to check your junk or spam folder? It could be there!
Ive had these instances with other product companies.
Doesnt hurt to look. :D Hope that helped.
I get it and I understand why you sent it back. I am glad to hear that you like to CD-I want to get it...I will just watch out for the video issue
It's a matter of principle. I don't feel like I over reacted...what if another issue came up in the future.
Could I count on them to help out then? Again - outstanding software, but not the only software in town.
I've been using another brand of software with different features, but about as good as the fluent (better in some areas, worse in others). I still recommend the Fluenz to people learning French.
Just to clarify - the staff was very polite, just very inconsistent.
seems like your liked the software a lot but over-reacted a little. like cmon not getting a free foreign language film through itunes made you return it!? plenty of places on the net or cheapo video stores to get those foreign language films from.
